Falling down is the easy part, the challenge is to succeed once you have gotten up. ~ Dr. Donna

Guess what, if you fall down you don’t have to stay down. Get up, dust yourself off and keep going. I have never admitted the following failures to strangers prior to writing my book. My belief is that, it is necessary as the reader for you to understand how my failures never stopped me from achieving my goals.

Here is a list of a few failures:

  1. Failed the run portion of my first physical fitness test when I was in Basic Training.
  2. Failed the written portion of my driver’s license test twice.
  3. Fired from a temp position after graduating from college because I could not answer a nine line phone system.
  4. Failed the GRE the first two times that I took it.
  5. Failed the third phase of Air Assault School as a Captain in the U.S. Army.

I got up from every failure and here are the results:

  1. Achieved a perfect score during the run on my final physical fitness test before I left the Army.
  2. Passed all driving test since then.
  3. Never been fired from a job again and can answer multiple phone lines if necessary.
  4. Have a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership after taking the GRE three times.
  5. Earned my Air Assault badge after completing the third phase for the second time.

I have failed and succeeded. Never once letting the failures stop me from moving forward. Sure the failures hurt. They were embarrassing and made me feel like crap each time it occurred But, what felt much better was getting up and succeeding. Accepting the failures as a challenge allowed me to overcome them.

That is how you need to view failures. You have to tell yourself that failure is not an option.

A REAL Leader has only one option and that is to succeed.
