Solicit Feedback

Feedback is the gift that keeps on giving.

Just To Be Clear: When it is given correctly feedback is designed to develop your skills.

Now that being said, no one really wants to ask for performance focused feedback. It’s hard to ask for, hard to give and even harder to receive.

Why?

Because most of the time it’s “constructive criticism,” and as long as I’ve been alive, I’ve yet to witness constructive criticism, construct anything of value.

So, as I mentioned when you solicit Feedback you are seeking information to improve your performance and I’d like to add, to improve a skill or behavior.

When you are receiving the feedback that you’ve asked for, listen with an attentive ear and filter the information. Then write it down and review it a couple of days later.

Next conduct self-analysis and if the feedback is going to help you develop your skills, then apply it; if you have received constructive criticism instead of feedback, do not use it!

Seek feedback from people that you, respect, people that are competent, growth minded and most importantly a Real Leader. Because Real Leaders want the best for you, without any, “Quid Pro Quo,” strings attached.

Remember feedback is a gift, constructive criticism is not.

And asking for and receiving performanced focused feedback is the gift that keeps on giving.
